The efforts of the Romans from Sibiu were long and difficult to build a large cathedral in the center of the city, as a symbol of their Orthodox faith. It was achieved on August 5, 1902 when the first cornerstone of the future cathedral was laid, they say that on that day Romanians came from all over the city to participate in this great event, and the joy and pride of the people of Sibiu was greater in the opening and consecration of the church in 1906. The cathedral dominated Over the whole area with its enormous Byzantine nave inspired by the architecture of the Church of St. Sophia in Constantinople and two rectangular towers 45 m high, now this cathedral is a magnet for Romanian and foreign tourists who want to discover the secrets of the Orthodox faith.
