The Orion Fountain is a prominent tourist attraction in Messina. It is an ancient stone fountain dating back to the sixteenth century, surrounded by a group of statues of mythical figures, and its pyramid-shaped center is crowned with a statue of Orion (the founder of the city according to the well-known legend), the work of the sculptor and architect. The Italian Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli, commissioned by the Senate of Messina to erect a monument to celebrate the completion of the city's first aqueduct in 1547 AD.
