The remains of Wartburg Castle are located at an altitude of 632 meters above sea level, about 160 meters from modern Wartburg on the rocky Jura mountain range. It was built around the year 1170 on the ruins of an older fortress by the lords of the Evental, which at that time consisted of a huge residential suite and a courtyard. Adjacent to the south, and in 1415 it was completely destroyed during the conquest of the Aargau region by the Confederacy.
