The old town hall of Amarante is located in the old monastery buildings to the right of the church in the market square in the center of Amarante. It houses a small municipal museum on the first floor that displays a collection of artifacts, sculptures and modern paintings, including paintings by the Portuguese cubist artist Amadeo de Sousa Cardoso ( Amadeo de Souza Cardoso) was born near Amarante.
