Information about Old Court House Museum
The Old House of Wisdom Museum, is one of the oldest buildings in Durban that bears a fascinating past. The building was excavated during the Anglo-Zulu war period in 1879, and it was a witness to both the South African wars and the Bambaata Rebellion, and more recently it served as a recruitment center and canteen during the two world wars. The exhibition displays small statues related to the history of KwaZulu-Natal, and a touch screen computer screen provides visitors with an overview of the history of the province through the lives of these characters. The room has four unique galleries, David S. P. Anderson's Pharmacy, Henry Francis Flynn's House, Clermont Sugar Mill (displaying developments in the production of Natal's most lucrative resource), and Miss Van Fancy's Warehouse with a display of imported fabrics and haberdashery luxuries available in Durban at the end of the ninth century ten.
