The old castle and the nearby Collegiate church are the oldest traces of Stuttgart, and its construction dates back to the 10th century, when the castle was built as a simple moat fortress in 941. The 16th century, the old castle, which is a symbol of Württemberg's history, was built in the Renaissance style. Since 1948, it has housed the Württemberg State Museum, and today it is one of the oldest Protestant places of worship in southern Germany.
