Information about Nymphaeum
A large and huge water fountain in the city of Gerasa, was established to meet the increasing demand for water in the city of Gerasa, especially after the construction of the Roman baths. The nymphs' fountain was built between 190-191 AD as a main water source in the city. The fountain is located along the main street and consists of two side aisles, the two levels of the facade are richly decorated with carvings, panels and Corinthian columns, the lower level is decorated with marble panels and the upper level is decorated with painted stucco. From the mouths of several lion heads carved into a large, deep basin that ran the width of the monument, water was flowing continuously, and any excess was collected from the sewage system in the street.
