Information about Northern Gate
The first thing you see when you enter the ancient city of Kotor is the North Gate, which is distinguished by its magnificent design that has stood since the Middle Ages. You can see the moat full of water, and walk on the bridge that connects you to the city, it is definitely a place worth visiting. The northern gate or river gate was built in Renaissance style to preserve the memory of Kotor's victory over the famous Turkish admiral Hajrudin Barbarosa in 1539. An inscription above it says that Barbarossa besieged the city with 2,000 ships and 30,000 soldiers, but still no succeed in overcoming it.
