One of the dazzling and distinctive Buddhist statues in the Japanese city of Shimbara, it is a bronze statue of a reclining Buddha and is said to be the largest bronze statue in the world. With a length of about 41 meters, a height of 11 meters, and a weight of about 300 tons, the statue depicts Buddha at the moment of death or entering nirvana. Every year, hundreds of Buddhists gather to clean the statue using bamboo leaves attached to five-meter poles, and the statue annually receives about 11 million visitors from around the world.
