Information about National Theatre Bucharest
Three-part building. The original National Theater was built between 1967 and 1970 by three Romanian architects, Hoya Maiko, Romeo Beli and Nikolai Cocco, and was designed in an abstract way to honor the architecture of the famous Moldovan monasteries. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed between 1984 and 1984 When a gray, concrete, obscure neoclassical casing was placed over the previous structure, however, this ugly casing was removed in 2011 when the theater began to take its current form. As such, the colorful red and white theater looks again like the original architects' building. Although there are significant differences within the building, there are now a number of new and smaller auditoriums alongside the main stage, which is more flexible than before, and more able to accommodate audiences.
