Information about National Museum
It is one of the national museums of Sri Lanka. It is located in the oldest remaining Dutch building in Galle Castle. It is a one-story Dutch building built in 1656 AD as a shop for the Dutch garrison in the fort. The building was renovated by the Department of National Museums and opened on March 31, 1986 AD. The museum includes a limited set of exhibits from the Portuguese, Dutch and British periods, and it also contains three main galleries. The first group contains collections related to cottage industries in the region such as jewelry making, Peralo lace weaving, and traditional wooden mask carving, while the second contains a collection of period furniture.
