The National Archaeological Museum is the largest museum in Greece and one of the most important in the world, located in a neoclassical building built at the end of the 19th century. Its rich collections - comprising more than 11,000 objects - introduce the visitor to ancient Greek culture from the beginning of prehistoric times to late antiquity. The museum also houses a rich photographic archive and a library containing many rare editions, which are constantly being enriched to meet the needs of the scientific staff. It also has modern workshops for the maintenance of metal objects, ceramics and stone, casting workshops, organic materials, photography workshop and chemical laboratory. There are also halls for rotating exhibitions, a lecture theatre, as well as one of the largest collections of antique resource funds.
