The museum is located in a European-style building from the 19th century, which was established in 2007. Created to teach the national identity and history of the people of Thailand, and their relationship with neighboring cultures, it shows the development of Thailand from the past to the present, presenting exhibits in a contemporary, attractive and interactive way, with galleries that address a range of questions about the origins of the nation and its people.
