The Museum of Contemporary Art, founded in 1967, is one of the largest galleries of contemporary art in the world. The museum's collection consists of thousands of visual art pieces, produced after World War II. The museum has hosted many notable exhibitions, including the first American exhibition by Frida Kahlo, and Jeff Koons' first solo exhibition. Exhibits include works by artists including Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker and Alexander Calder, showcasing works from the 1940s and 1970s, pop art, and conceptual art, through notable collections from the postmodern period of the 1980s. In addition to contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, video, dance performances, theater, music, and the interdisciplinary arts.
