Information about Museo Cappella Sansevero
Located in the heart of Naples city centre, this Archaeological Museum traces its origins back to the end of the 16th century, when it was the mausoleum of the aristocratic de Sangro VII dynasty. The name translates into English as "The Alchemist's Church". Dressed in ghostly white marble, with a multicolored marble floor and ornately decorated ceiling frescoes, the venue is stuffed with works by some of the greatest names in 18th-century Naples art theatre. The crypt at the bottom of the church contains the remains of the experiments of alchemists with dissecting skeletons, and Masonic symbols cover the walls, which you can watch while walking around the place.
