The Redpath Museum is Canada's oldest museum building and opened in 1882. It originally housed the collections of Sir William Dawson. The museum currently contains extensive collections in the areas of paleontology, zoology, mineralogy and world cultures (ethnology), and the museum also houses several research laboratories and Victorian classrooms. This Natural History Museum at McGill University is named after business philanthropist John Redpath.
