Mummification Museum in the former Visitors Center on the Luxor Corniche, contains multiple exhibitions with various exhibits that explain the art of mummification well. Also, the museum sometimes closes for several hours after midday. Among the exhibits are the well-preserved mummy of a 21st century high priest from Amun and Maherharti and a group of mummified animals. In addition to the tools and materials used in the mummification process, such as the small metal spoon used to remove the brain from the skull. Also included are many artifacts that were part of the journey transforming beings into mummys to prepare for entering the afterlife, as well as some beautifully decorated coffins. Presiding over the entrance is a beautiful small statue of the jackal deity, Anubis, and the god of mummification who helped Isis turn her husband, brother Osiris, into the first mummy.
