The Mulkirigala rock temples are an ancient group of Buddhist temples located near the town of Tangalla in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka that were built on a natural rock 205 meters high amid lush green coconut plantations. These temples have been officially recognized as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka by UNESCO. The 533 steps to reach the temples are certainly worth the effort, as visitors will enjoy the spiritual and serene atmosphere and the view of the walls dotted with murals and sculptures dating back to the Kandyan era.
