Muir Woods National Monument is part of the Golden Gate National District north of San Francisco, and is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. Famous for its towering redwood trees, this National Monument covers 558 acres of green space with many scenic trails to treetops, the Pacific Ocean and Mount Tamalpais, and is home to more than 380 different plants and animals, including 27 species of mammals and 50 species. One species of birds, 12 species of reptiles, and 5 species of amphibians.
