Mount Agung is an active conical volcano standing tall at 3,142 meters above sea level on the eastern coast of Bali. Its western side is fertile, while its eastern slopes remain dry and barren. The mountain is believed by the Balinese to be the abode of the gods, and is home to the most important temple of Besakih on the island.
