The Millennium is a bronze monument in the heart of the city, established to mark the millennium since Tsar Rurik's arrival in Novgorod, which in the opinion of many historians is the period when the Russian state began to flourish. The monument was opened in the year 1862 in a huge event visited by tens of thousands of visitors from all over Russia and the world. The monument consists of a huge bell with a height of 15 meters facing a cross symbolizing the power and prestige of the Tsar.
