Although the park was portrayed as temporary because King Leopold ordered it converted into underground parking facilities, it has become a green and colorful area in the heart of the capital. The park and its vicinity are surrounded by massive and stern architectural structures such as the Royal Library of Belgium and the Palace of Congress. The square's new geometric garden was also designed by landscape architect René Becher.
