The Monastery of Agios Ioannis is of great religious and touristic importance as it is one of the most important churches in Greece and one of the most prominent, if not the most prominent, tourist sites on the island of Patmos. Tourists and locals can see the monastery from anywhere on the island, as its privileged position on the top of a hill overlooking the sea gives it a wonderful view of a large part of the tourist attractions of Patmos.
