The monastery of the Forty Saints was built in the sixteenth century AD as an important site for Byzantine pilgrims. It played an important role in the history of Sarandeh, as the name of the first city was "Aji Saranda", meaning the Forty Saints; Its name came from the 40 rooms of the Roman martyrs who refused to give up their religious beliefs. Today, it is considered one of the historical attractions visited by many lovers of antiquities and buildings with distinctive architectural design.
