On May 7, 2000, the Braunschweig-Shilstrasse memorial concentration camp was opened. In its concept, the Center, developed by Sigrid Sigurdsson, consists of a tiered base and so-called open archives that invite residents of Braunschweig as well as local organizations, associations and institutions to deposit documents, ideas and personal souvenirs there; More than 70 library boxes have been collected for the archives, and selected texts from these archives are displayed on metal plates on the wall that frames the memorial center.
