The Auschwitz Memorial and Museum was established on the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp; the largest concentration and extermination camp for Nazis, located near the small town of Auschwitz in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, where more than 1.5 million people were executed between 1940 and 1945. The memorial and museum dedicated to the memory of the victims of this tragedy can now be visited, as the camp still looks as it did at the time of liberation.
