Moulay Ismail bin Sharif, also known as the Warrior King, was a ruler of the Moroccan Alaouite dynasty. During his reign, he built Meknes and made it the capital of Morocco. Today it is believed that coming to the site will bring a divine blessing to the visitor. The building is also a fine example of Islamic architecture and lavish design. Non-Muslims are not allowed to view the entire site, as they are only allowed to visit part of the building, but this is the only building of its kind in Morocco that will ever be open to tourists.
