The Marguerite Bridge is the second oldest public bridge in Budapest. It was designed by the French engineer Emile Gouin and then built between 1872 and 1876. This bridge leads across Margaret Island. The reason for the unusual geometry of the bridge lies in the fact that the small extension of the Margaret Island Connection was included in the original design, but was not built until two decades later due to lack of funds; It was under full reconstruction from 2009-2011 and included the addition of fenders, decorative lights and a bike path.
