Mananchera is a man-made fresh water pond located in the center of Kozhikode in Kerala state. The pond was founded in the fourteenth century by the feudal ruler of the city, and was built to collect drinking water and to be a shrine in which the inhabitants of the city could swim and have a good time. At the end of the nineteenth century, he issued a decree banning its use for any purpose other than drinking.
