The Madara Knight is a rock-cut statue in a cliff with a height of 100 meters near the village of Madara in northeastern Bulgaria. Madara was the main holy place of the First Bulgarian Empire. Occurred between 705 and 801, it was created during the first years of the formation of the Bulgarian state (at the beginning of the eighth century), and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is considered an exceptional work of art and a unique historical monument, which has no equal in Europe. It has been preserved in its original condition to this day.
