Lyknostats Open Air Museum is located by the sea in Crete, and includes four main collections: the Nature and Fruit collection, which includes gardens of fruit trees, aromatic herbs, cacti, shrubs, plants, stones and minerals, and an ethnographic collection displaying traditional Cretan life (stone farmhouse, middle-class house, a chapel, an olive oil press, a windmill, etc.), an art collection that includes works by folk artists, an open theater and exhibition room, as well as an industrial technology collection on equipment used in the past. The museum organizes a range of educational programmes, its audiovisual department produces films, CDs and DVDs which are presented daily in the multimedia and conference room, and it also houses a souvenir shop and café.
