Information about Luxor Obelisk
The Luxor Obelisk is a pair of ancient Egyptian obelisks carved to stand on either side of the gateway to the Luxor Temple during the reign of Ramses II. The left obelisk has remained at its site in Egypt, but the right stone, which is 23 meters (75 ft) high, is now located in the center of the Place de la Concorde in Paris, France. The Luxor Obelisk in Paris was officially designated a Historic Landmark in 1936; Below it is the Concorde metro station. The obelisks are made of yellow granite and inscribed with hieroglyphs honoring Pharaoh Ramses II.
