The oldest area in Marseille is known as Le Pannier, which was named in reference to the area where the market (agora) stood at the time when the city was ruled by the Greeks. Nowadays the area is a mixture of historic streets and lanes, gorgeous churches, ornate buildings, bustling cafes, and great views of the harbor and the surrounding city.
