Information about Laman Padi Langkawi
The Rice Museum is the first of its kind in Malaysia and the fourth in the world after similar museums in Japan, Germany and the Philippines. The museum displays many artifacts, tools, maps and pictures that were used throughout history in the cultivation of rice on the island of Langkawi. The museum was opened in June of 1999, and the museum has a spacious garden which is a good place to spend an afternoon. The stages of rice cultivation are reviewed through models displayed in the museum garden in order to develop awareness and understanding of the methods of cultivation in Langkawi in particular and in Malaysia in general. The museum also contains several workshops to teach handicrafts that provide the opportunity to grow and collect rice for visitors so that they can live the real experience of farming, in addition to a souvenir shop, which makes visiting the museum and its garden a real and unforgettable experience.
