Qasr Halouf (the fortified village nominated by the Tunisian government as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) was built in the thirteenth century by local Berber groups, expanded in the mid-nineteenth century, and restored in 2006 AD. A group of spacious courtyards and rooms with cylindrical domes built for storing and preserving grain, is an important tourist attraction in the southern part of the country.
