Kolkheti National Park is Georgia's first natural site. It has been nominated on the UNESCO World Heritage List, for its richness in Kolchik forests and wetlands. The Kolsheti Lowlands first received international attention in 1996 when Georgia joined the Ramsar Convention; It is an intergovernmental treaty on wetlands of international importance, particularly those that serve as habitats for waterfowl.
