Information about Kobat El Hassana Protected Area
The Dome of Al-Hasana is one of the unique reserves in Cairo, about 8 kilometers from the magnificent Pyramids of Giza. It is divided into two parts by the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road. Its name is derived from its dome-shaped hills and its location in the Al-Hasana Valley. This reserve is unique, and despite its small area, it contains exceptional geological formations, rocks and seashells, as well as a variety of fossils of some plants, coral reefs and animals dating back about one hundred million years. The Dome of Al-Hasana was established as a protected area during 1989, but it was discovered in the mid-19th century by the French engineer Gustave Le Febrve by order of Muhammad Ali Pasha, the ruler of Egypt at the time. It is mainly visited by those who are interested in exploring the geological field and studying paleontology.
