The King's Gate is one of the six previous gates built during the nineteenth century around the city of Kaliningrad. It was originally called the Gumpinen Gate. It was built in 1765 on the edge of the Neu Sorge region, and in 1811 it was renamed King's Gate. Many factors have affected the shape of the gate over the years, the last of which was in 2005, when it was renovated again to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the city's existence.
