A massive white gate leads visitors to the Kaohsiung Martyrs' Mausoleum building, which is surrounded by perennial pine trees that lend a natural aesthetic to this landmark. The shrine looks like a Chinese palace decorated with colorful statues and paintings and guards the city of Kaohsiung from above. The shrine's upper floors offer a panoramic view of some of Kaohsiung's top tourist destinations and landscapes such as Kaohsiung Harbor and its mountains.
