Kalevipoeg is the Estonian national epic about the adventures of the hero named Kalevipoeg. The memorial was dedicated to the soldiers who lost their lives in the War of Independence and was brought down in 1950 by the occupying forces. Discussions about restoring the monument have been held since 1988, but when the exhibition "Califorbeg through Sculpture" was held in 2002, the proper restoration began.
