Okuz Mehmet Pasha built the Kaleici Mosque in the seventeenth century, in 1618, when he was governor of the Ottoman province of Aydin, as part of a construction project that included the construction of a traditional bath and city walls . Today, Kaleici Mosque is one of the most famous mosques in Kusadasi, the largest, and the oldest.
