John F. Kennedy Memorial Square is located in downtown Dallas, near the area where John Kennedy was assassinated. A memorial was established in that area in 1970 and the surrounding area became known as John F. Kennedy Square in relation to the memorial. The American architect Philip Johnson designed the monument in the form of an empty coffin or tomb to serve as a symbol of the freedom of Kennedy's spirit.
