Built in the 18th century during the reign of King John V, the stunning Guanine Library, which has been designated a Portuguese National Monument, contains an indispensable part of the University of Coimbra Public Library and is one of Coimbra's landmarks, attracting many Tourists wishing to learn about its interesting history. The beautiful and noble interior design of this opulent library reflects the generous spirit of its founding patron. Visitors are welcomed by the coat of arms of the king above the large portico at the entrance, and students and researchers can refer to more than 300,000 volumes dating from the sixteenth century to the late century XVIII and preserved in the archives covering three floors of the building.
