Information about Isurumuniya Rajamaha Viharaya
This amazing temple dates back to 307-267 BC, and is one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in the city. It is surrounded by a beautiful lotus pond, engraved with a corner of pictures with elephants comically spraying water, while the central temple contains some frescoes. Beautiful bronze Buddhist statues, and you can climb around the back to the top of the rocks to see a bell-shaped stupa alongside Buddha's footprints carved into the rock. The small museum next to this temple features the famous "Lovers" carvings, which date from about the fifth century AD and were carved in the artistic style of the Indian Gupta dynasty in the fourth and fifth centuries.
