Information about Iolani Palace
One of the most famous historical and tourist attractions in Honolulu, Iolani Palace was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii starting from the Kamehameha III of the Kamehameha Dynasty (1845) and ending with Queen Liliukalani (1893) of the Kalakaua Dynasty, founded by her brother, King David Kalakaua. Located in the Capitol district in downtown Honolulu, Hawaii, the mansion is now a National Historic Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places. After the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893, the building was used as a capitol for the Provisional Government, the Republic, the Territories, and the State of Hawaii until 1969. The palace was restored and opened to the public as a museum in 1978. The Iolani Palace is the only royal palace on the territory of the United States.
