Independence Square is considered one of the most famous squares in Sri Lanka, due to its location near the Independence Monument, which was named after it. The monument was built in 1948 to commemorate Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule. The square includes a famous fountain, and the Central Independence Museum is located nearby. The plaza is a seating area surrounded by many green spaces.
