Beautiful catholic church in Lisbon. It was the first Jesuit church not only in Portugal but in Europe in general. This ecclesiastical edifice served the local assembly in Portugal for more than 200 years before the Jesuits were expelled from the country. After the Lisbon earthquake in 1755 AD, the church's residents and followers were given an annex called the House of Mercy to replace the destroyed church and headquarters. There is still a part of the Holy House of Mercy to this day. The church contains a number of chapels, most of which are in the magnificent Baroque style, and are distinguished by their ornate walls and religious paintings of distinctive colors. Some people say it is the most expensive church in Europe.
