This place was the first male monastery in Santiago de Guatemala, and here you can see the ancient cross in the stone in the atrium, and the rooms behind the main altar are the oldest structures in La Merced dating back to the seventh century Ten, and in 1749 Juan de Dios Estrada was commissioned to build both this sanctuary and the monastery.
