Devin Castle is a historic fortress located on a high cliff in southwestern Slovakia at the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers. It was an important military fortification of Great Moravia, a Slavic state whose subject areas in the first half of the eighth century included parts of present-day Moravia, Western Slovakia and adjacent areas. For many generations of Slovaks, this castle was considered a symbol of the beginnings of Slovak history, and is still considered an important historical place that expresses the nobility of Slovak history.
