The Horse Memorial is a famous heritage site in Port Elizabeth, and was built in honor of the horses that served in service during the Second Boer War. More than 300,000 horses died during the war with Britain, and the memorial was placed in the place where the horses disembarked the moment they reached the city. It is a huge bronze statue depicting a soldier offering water to a horse during service.
